Time to Spring Clean Our Bodies

spring cleaning

Ready to lose the bloat, the blues, and maybe that “Quarantine 15?” It’s time for spring cleaning. Let’s start with our bodies, before we tackle the cupboards and closets.

The isolation and sacrifices of this pandemichave taken their toll on us all — particularly women, who lost the most jobs, and gained the burden of homeschooling children, caring for family members and keeping everyone safe and healthy. If your self-care has been bumped to the bottom of your priority list, we are here to inspire an easy reboot!

Think of this cleanse as a path to purge stress, worry and frustration, as well as unwanted pounds. Sugar and junk food — while comforting in the moment — acidify our bodies creating more stress long-term, aswell as inflammation.

Begin your cleanse by adding to your diet — not eliminating! For one to two weeks, consume extra protein, smoothies and protein snacks, such as hard-boiled eggs, sliced turkey and nut butters. Because protein is the antidote for cravings, it will be easier to gradually let go of sugar, wheat, processed foods, dairy products and fake fats. Now you’re ready to jump into a cleanse!

You cannot fail! Don’t beat yourself up if you begin, and life throws you a curve. Tomorrow is a new day! Self-love and acceptance is the goal — NOT a certain dress size!! A spring cleanse does not have to be a complete fast, so tailor our suggestions to your lifestyle.

  1. Consume only liquids 1-2 days a week, but don’t forgo nutrition: Include vegetable juices, bone or veggie broths, smoothies, protein shakes, miso soup and herbal tea.
  2. Another way to cleanse is to eat only veggies and clean protein for 5-7 days, drinking plenty of water! Enjoy salads with lemon or ACV & olive oil, steamed veggies, stir-fried veggies and broiled, baked or roasted organic fish, chicken or turkey. Canned salmon on a salad is a fast and easy lunch!
  3. A third way to cleanse is to consume only fruits and veggies for 3-7 days. If you have blood sugar issues — which most of us do — add sugar-free protein drinks as well.

If you have any detox symptoms while you cleanse — headaches, brain fog or fatigue —remember your cleansing protocols which help your body eliminate toxins: salt baths, saunas, colonics, coffee enemas and brisk walks in fresh air!

There are so many ways to cleanse our minds and bodies. What works best for you?
